Human Heredity: Principles and Issues 11th Edition
Author: Michael Cummings ID: 1305251059

About the Author

Michael Cummings is the author and coauthor of a number of widely used college textbooks, including BIOLOGY: SCIENCE AND LIFE; CONCEPTS OF GENETICS; GENETICS: A MOLECULAR PERSPECTIVE; ESSENTIALS OF GENETICS; HUMAN HEREDITY; and HUMAN GENETICS AND SOCIETY. He has also written articles on aspects of genetics for the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science and Technology and has published a newsletter on advances in human genetics for instructors and students. He received his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Northwestern University. His doctoral work, conducted in the laboratory of Dr. R.C. King, centered on ovarian development in Drosophila melanogaster. After a year on the faculty at Northwestern, he moved to the University of Illinois at Chicago, where for many years he held teaching and research positions. In 2003, he joined the faculty in the Department of Biology at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and currently holds the title of Research Professor. His current research interests involve the organization of DNA sequences in the short-arm and centromere region of human chromosome 21. He is engaged in a collaborative effort to construct a physical map of this region of chromosome 21 for the purpose of exploring molecular mechanisms of chromosome interactions. At the undergraduate level, he has focused on teaching genetics, human genetics for non-majors, and general biology to majors and non-majors. He has received awards given by the university faculty for outstanding teaching, has twice been voted by graduating seniors as the best teacher in their years on campus, and has received several teaching awards from student organizations.

Pictorial Anatomy of the Cat 1975 Edition Edition
Author: Stephen Gilbert ID: 029595454X

Review

‘The text describes the norm, and for the sake of brevity the numerous variations which may be encountered in the laboratory are not described. I have used a combination of diagrammatic marginal illustrations, which are labeled directly, and larger realistic illustration, which are labeled with numbered keys.’ – Stephen G. Gilbert (author)

“The text describes the norm, and for the sake of brevity the numerous variations which may be encountered in the laboratory are not described. I have used a combination of diagrammatic marginal illustrations, which are labeled directly, and larger realistic illustration, which are labeled with numbered keys.”―Stephen G. Gilbert

This lab dissection guide was written over 40 years ago, but it is still the single best guide to cat anatomy. Cats haven’t changed, but modern textbook manufacturers think that their thick glossy expensive books are more appealing to today’s students. They are wrong. This simple guide is filled with beautiful hand drawn illustrations that are more helpful than any photograph. I only wish it was spiral bound so I could leave it open flat while dissecting. Check out Gilbert’s guide to the dogfish anatomy as well. Together they make a great set of manuals for any comparative anatomy course.

I am a graduate teaching assistant at Old Dominion University and we use this book extensively as a reference for muscles and blood vessels. The drawings are very accurate and the text is easy to read and flows well from a dissector’s viewpoint. In addition, there are simplified "road-map" type sketches to aid in understanding the branching patterns of the major blood vessels. This "catlas" has proven to be quite indispensable for our purposes.

I am an anatomy and physiology professor who purchased this book as my own reference! The images and organization are excellent and most of my students enjoy this type of simplified representation over photos. Highly recommended for teachers and students alike for use on the cat and sheep brain.

“Each area is well covered and the associated pathologies explained. It’s friendly and informative style makes for easy reading and the colour illustrations are well chosen and add value to the text.”

Hardcover: 816 pagesPublisher: Mosby; 6 edition (February 18, 2013)Language: EnglishISBN-10: 0323101232ISBN-13: 978-0323101233 Product Dimensions: 11.2 x 8.8 x 1.3 inches Shipping Weight: 4.2 pounds (View shipping rates and policies) Best Sellers Rank: #780,559 in Books (See Top 100 in Books) #713 in Books > Textbooks > Medicine & Health Sciences > Medicine > Basic Sciences > Physiology #875 in Books > Textbooks > Science & Mathematics > Biology & Life Sciences > Anatomy & Physiology #1243 in Books > Medical Books > Basic Sciences > Physiology

I wanted an in depth book on the Human Body. Most books I looked at were for someone who just wanted a survey of the body without any real details. I realized I would have to take another tack and looked at textbooks for my needs. This book has exceeded my expectations and is justified in its price I feel. Very in depth with excellent illustrations and everything a great textbook needs for the discerning individual.

The setup of this book and the online resources really help set a student up for success in learning anatomy and physiology. The practice quizzes, the questions (and online answers) help solidify every concept written in each chapter.

This book is an update of an older reference I had in my work library for years. I always need newer references for the information that I use as a freelance medical writer/editor. This text is readable and can be used as an original reference.

Human Anatomy Coloring Book – February 1, 1982 PDF

Human Anatomy Coloring Book (Dover Children’s Science Books) Paperback – February 1, 1982
Author: Margaret Matt ID: 0486241386

Age Range: 8 – 11 yearsGrade Level: 3 – 5Series: Dover Children’s Science BooksPaperback: 48 pagesPublisher: Dover Publications; 1 edition (February 1, 1982)Language: EnglishISBN-10: 0486241386ISBN-13: 978-0486241388 Product Dimensions: 0.5 x 8.2 x 11 inches Shipping Weight: 7.2 ounces (View shipping rates and policies) Best Sellers Rank: #8,756 in Books (See Top 100 in Books) #7 in Books > Children’s Books > Science, Nature & How It Works > Experiments & Projects #23 in Books > Medical Books > Basic Sciences > Anatomy #28 in Books > Science & Math > Biological Sciences > Anatomy

I found this to be a helpful tool for my college anatomy and physiology class. Definitely get this book, it will help you recall items on tests more efficiently. If you want to know the kind of questions A and P teachers ask on tests get the following books:
Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations
Vol 1 ISBN: 0971999619
Vol 2 ISBN: 0971999627
These 3 sources should help you get good grades in your A and P class. My friends and I used them and we all did quite well.

For any teachers of Anatomy / Human Biology at High School (ages 13 to 18), this book is a MUST for students in the age range of 14 to 16.

Not only does it reinforce the facts you teach, but it also serves as a back-up to most text books. While the sections in Griffin’s Biology Colouring Book cover similar work, they are not as detailed as Matt’s book, nor are they too far above the high school level as the other Anatomy Colouring Books that have far too much detail.

Most explanations are at a reasonable reading level. Some may need at times a little more teacher explanation.

The only major gripe I have is that the colours are preset. Some colours are very difficult to get!

Get your students a copy of this book – those of your students who want to involved in the medical profession will thank you for it!

I teach Anatomy and Physiology at a community college, so this book was a little too basic and not detailed enough for the class that I teach. Great book for the high school aged or for general information.
